Joe's a hands-on CD and writer and loves every aspect of the job – from helping write a great strategy to creating and crafting a brilliant idea.
I’m currently running my own freelance writing/consulting business, creating advertising across various media for a host of different client sectors, including finance, Telco, Healthcare, Auto, Fashion, Sustainability, and FMCG. My average day includes:
• Creating, reviewing and editing final copy for accuracy and overseeing all phases of production.
• Collaborating with strategic planners to maintain consistency with brand marketing and message strategies.
• Creating through-the-line integrated campaigns and 1:1 B2B and B2C comms.
• Writing blogs and social content across all facets of social media.
• Managing all phases of client projects from planning to on-time and on-budget completion of deliverables.
• Incorporate SEO keywords into copy to optimise search result rankings.
I was recently the Associate Creative Director and Head of Copy for Sudler, Sydney - a leading healthcare agency. I oversaw and created advertising for the healthcare space, creating through-the-line creative campaigns for HCPs. This included TVCs, brand awareness, digital and content, pharmacy engagement, strategy, experiential and everything in between.
I was the Group Head of Audi Australia, overseeing the "always on" retail component of the business. My other responsibilities also included overseeing Harley-Davidson and Whitlock's social and writing for TK Maxx, Unilever and every pitch that came through the door.
At Leo's, I was the co-Creative Director of one of the largest retail accounts in Australia, Woolworths. We were a team of 51, over half of which were creative folk. I oversaw and wrote across every media: TV, Print, Radio, experiential, promotional, online content, social and digital.
After joining Loud, I was soon promoted to the role of Creative Director. At its peak, I managed three creative teams, two designers, two art studio operators and two digital specialists.
During my tenure as CD, I worked on approximately 70 different pitches, with a success rate of just over 60%.
I was responsible for managing six teams and overseeing the creative output for McDonald's Australia, as well as writing numerous TV, radio and print campaigns. I worked closely with our Launch Pad graduates, helping them nurture their ideas and evolve their skills.
I helped create a core values campaign that was a paradigm shift for the QSR category. This was a big step for McDonald's as it marked the first time they presented nutritional facts in an honest, compelling way. Research results proved that consumer perceptions towards the McDonald's brand changed favourably.
On top of all that, I created a new campaign for McDonald's Deli Choices that increased overall transactions by 2.8% from the previous year.
As the Creative Director and lead copywriter for this small, start‑up agency in Sydney, I helped launch St. George Bank’s “Big Enough, Small Enough” campaign.
I was instrumental in helping george to become Campaign Brief's Emerging Agency of the Year, 2003.
We pitched and won numerous accounts including New World Supermarkets (New Zealand), Telstra Stadium Corporate Suites, and Nugan Estate Wines.
While working on nearly every piece of business at the agency, I was the Creative Brand Guardian and head writer on NSW Lotteries and News Ltd. Our creative work increased sales by 2.3% overall for NSW Lotteries in a year-on-year comparison.
I wrote campaigns for McDonald’s, US West, FTD, and Unilever, and was chosen by DDB Chicago as the best up‑and‑coming creative talents of the year. During my time there, I created some of the most successful campaigns in US West's history.
I cut my proverbial packaged goods teeth on the sweaty meats and fatty cheeses of Kraft Foods and Oscar Mayer, as well as 7Eleven, Motorola, Northern Telecom, Ford Credit Card and Princess Cruise Lines.
I quickly climbed the ladder to Senior Copywriter in a few short years.
Created and pitched the winning idea for a $50 Million Midas Muffler account.
I was a technical writer for Shell Chemical and brought some exceptionally technical brands to life - Krayton polymers, Neodol ethoxylates and surfactants and Shell lubricants. Also worked on Fiesta Foods and Black-Eyed Pea Restaurants.
Wrote radio ads for anything that I could get my hands on from midnight to 4am every single night. It was a humble (and tiring) start to a very exciting career.
